I have kidney infections 100% of the time. This is mainly due to reflux of urine from the new bladder to my kidneys. I haven't had a clear urine test since I had the surgery in 1994. I've lost about 10% kidney function since the surgery as well.

Darolyn,
Having an Indiana pouch does not mean automatic SS .They will look at your health records only, it does not matter what problems I or anyone else have had. They will review all your medical records, look at your ability to work etc.
As far my problems though, I have had bowel obstructions and lots of septic kidney infections.

as far as bowel obstructions how affend do you get them and do you end up in the hospital every time? And for how long at a time? Is your pain real bad?

When i get them it seams to be about every 2 months and for about 7 to 10 days and the pain is Unbelievable.

I tend to get them about every two years and they are total obstructions. I need to be on the hospital with an NG tube, pain meds, etc. I have needed surgery for them twice. It always happens in the same area of bowel- I have an internal hernia that can not be fixed so that is where they occur. The pain is unreal- for me I would much rather go through labor again than the pain of a bowel obstruction! I had two children, doing natural childbirth- no pain meds etc. and it was not bad as having an obstruction. I always worry that I may get another one. I know I get partially obstructed fairly often, but I am usually able to get things moving again. Do you go in the hospital when you have them? Have you ever needed surgery for it?

WOW i had to make sure i did not write what you did because i have always told people that i would give birth 30 days in a row rather than have one day of that pain.. The pain is so unreal. I carry Dilotid ( a pain killer) just in case i feel it coming on. I had 2 real bad times this summer and they were going to do emergency surgery but were afaid on popping my pouch and i have so much scar tissue from many many surgerys that they think it would only make it worst.
That by far is the worst pain i have ever felt and i have felt pain, and i know you have too.

hi everyone.
Can some one describe the symptoms of a bowel obstruction? I have been having sharp pains in the lower rt abdomen, very cyclical. Also somewhat a bit constipated, but not totally with out and occasional very small bm.

Thanks in advance for your help.

When i get mine it starts out pain like contractions and gets worse very fast like 1 hour and i am screaming and usually at the hospital at this point.
One time i woke up to the pain and my mom had to call the ambulance I keep pain med with me at all times just so when i feel it coming on i can start to kill the pain.
I wish i could tell you more but thats how it is for me,

For me, I am usually very constipated for several days before hand. Then when it becomes full blown I have INTENSE stomach pains that comes in waves as well as nausea and usually I start to vomit large amounts. The pain is what brings me to the hospital, that tends to start before the vomiting.
