Regarding my Mitrofanoff

Post by sal50 »

:( :( :(

This is so unbelievable regarding complcations I had following this procedure, talk about bad luck. This is my 7 failed treatment
I laugh sometimes :D It is that unreal.

About 10 days after the procedure I developed cellulitis and had to have the incision opened and packed. I was re-admitted to the hospital for another 4 days for IV antibiotics. During this time my stoma had the stent intact, and no problems.

After the Uro removed my foley and stent . I was sent home to cath through my new stoma. Right form the start I got no urine, and the home care nurse and i were unable to irrigate.

Needless to say the Uro did a endocystoscopy it was determined that i have a hole in my appendix and the catheter is not going into the bladder. The uro has given my 3 options. I am leaning toward getting the Indiana pouch, the Uro is willing to do the procedure.
a new pouch would be made from my intestines, and i would be able to cath from that stoma. The bladder would be by-passed.

Has anyone out there ever have this problem?

Take care all, Sally

I never had a Mitrofanoff, I started with an ileal conduit and then converted to an Indiana Pouch. My pouch just turned 17 last month :D . New Years Eve it will be 23 years since my bladder was taken out. Anyway, I love my pouch and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Judith
