There are a great deal of great programs and events planned. This thread will serve as an update and informational source for the Conference, as well as the clickable dates on the calendar of the main page of the website. Here, I will do my best to answer any questions you have about the conference and such. If I do not have a definite answer for your question , be patient, I will find the answer.!!!!!!!!

So............... get to adding those coins, dollars, and donations to that 'Conference Money' bucket. I hope to see you all there.

First time Conference Attendees:
As you arrive to New Orleans, if this is your first time to conference, arrive planning on attending the 'First timers' Social. This is a time for all new attendees to meet and greet others who are there for the first time. It is also a chance for you to meet and ask the Conference Planning Committee questions about the events of the Conference and get acquainted with the Managing Board of Directors of the National Organization during a Reception immediately following the First timers Social.
All attendees are welcome to attend :

7pm: Opening Ceremonies: This is a time to get introduced to the Managing Board of Directors , Conference Planning Committee, and to get an over view of what lies ahead. There will be a Key speaker............... A race car driver, Tim Mitchell will be speaking of his life as an ostomate and race car driver.
8pm Join us for an Ice Cream social , sponsored by Hollister. During this event, you will be served ice cream by the Managing Board of Directors. There will be other 'goodies' there as well. This is an event you don't want to miss. Take this opportunity to mingle with those you have met in the past, and those who you have never met. Get the Conference kicked off on a 'sweet note'.......

So, Let the Good Times Roll

This is just one evening, more information to follow. So, keep checking back as more events and details are displayed.

Hello all,
this is very Important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you are calling to reserve your room at the hotel, Sheraton on Canal street, you MUST state that you are with the UOAA conference to ensure that you get the room rate that has been negotiated. If you do not state this, you could pay a higher room rate.

Also, parking at the garage has been discounted some. The rate will be (taxes and such included) 24.90 per day. Now, you can go and get your car from the garage, valet will get it and bring it to you and then repark it again for you, through out the day.

Hello all,
For those having financial issues attending the UOAA conference, there is a program that can be applied for to assist with travel and lodging. This program is called CARES (Conference Attendee Reimbursement of Expenses Scholarship) . This is not intended to pay , fully, all the expenses, but to assist with them. The total amount given is $650.00. This has criteria:

1. Has to be the first National UOAA conference you have attended
2. Had surgery within the last year (though not exclusively-- but within the last year will take priority)
3. Have to be a member of an Affiliated Support Group
4. Have to follow application criteria and have application signed by ASG President
5. Funds are to be used by ostomate only, not family members
6. Funds are not distributed upfront. Reimbursement is given or travel arrangements made through UOAA travel agent
7. Attendee is responsible for their own meals and such. This is not intended to cover meals. ONLY travel and lodging.

If anyone would like an application to this, please let me know and I will send one to you to be filled out and submitted.

If you haven’t met her yet, come to New Orleans this August and really get to know her! She is CoCo, the Colossal Colon.

Thanks to an educational grant to UOAA by Edgepark Medical Supplies, arrangements have been made with the exhibit’s owner, The Colon Club, for CoCo to appear at our Conference. She is 40 feet long, 4 feet high and when crawling through her, or looking through one of the many viewing ports you will be able to learn about IBD, polyps, diverticula, hemorrhoids and other intestinal nasties. CoCo travels the country promoting awareness about diseases of the colon and encourages viewers to get regular check ups including periodic colonoscopy exams. She will be open to both UOAA Conference attendees as well as the general public on Thursday August 6th from noon to 5:00 pm; on Friday, the 7th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm August and on Saturday, the 8th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Sheraton Hotel’s ground floor Gallery Room.
