internal pouch for non-working rectum?

Post by liza.judy »

Is there an internal pouch option for a person with a non-functioning rectum?

You might want to see if a Continent Ileostomy - a Kock Pouch or BCIR - would work for you.

K Pouch, J Pouch, Illeostomy?

Post by liza.judy »

Yes a KPouh was recommended by my doctor, but I am exploring all options.

When it was discovered that my rectum wasn't working, the response of 2 doctors was that I get an illeostomy, which I have right now. No problems, just "green grassing", I guess.

Thanks for your response.

Liza,

I had an Ileostomy for 13 years before having it changed to a Kock Pouch. I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to contact me.

Hi Liza, you have an ileostomy now? If you are just having rectal issues, they can close it up. I'm having this done next week. They left a small sinus track open and I have bleeding and mucous. Or do you have a jpouch that is not working properly?

If you are looking into a kock pouch or bcir -then create an internal pouch that collects the stool. You'll still have a stoma, but it's set lower on your stomach and is flat. You'd insert a catheter into the stoma to empty the poo from the pouch. I assume during that surgery, they will close up your anal track as well.

Liza;

Go to bcir.com for answers to your questions. At that web site you can order a video and also a number to call for additional information.
