Hi All ~
I've recently been seeing small, hard, white deposits coming thru the catheter from my Koch pouch. They are very hard and stubborn to get thru. I irrigate, so no real problems, but I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what these might be ?
Thanks very much for any help !

You would have to look back at least 36 hours and determine what you have injested to be able to identify the "small white stones". What about Meds that haven't dissolved?

I have had that happen. It is something that will certainly get your attention isn't it? It most likely is either "grit" or mucus that has calcified. Unless you are having other symptoms, ie. pain, fever, foul smelling urine, I wouldn't worry too much. You can always call your uro let them know. I hate it when it plugs up the catheter.

ALiT stated that they have a Kock Pouch not a urinary pouch. Calcification is not an issue with Bowel pouches.

Ray, some urinary pouches are also Kock pouches, in fact in the beginning that is what they were called. I guess I also thought it was urinary since she irrigated, I did not know that bowel pouches for stool were also irrigated. My mistake, sorry.

I had stones in my Koch Pouch several years ago - very painful. They were to large for the internist to remove some during a sigmoscopic procedure so I was admitted to Urology to have them 'blasted' as with kidney stones. Interesting experience and a success - I haven't had this problem since.
I sent the stones to my Koch Pouch surgeon who responded that, although unusual, this has been known to happen. They were simple calcium.
