Irrigationproblems

Post by Dannys729 »

Hi, I’m a irrigater and have just gone through a bcm treatment for bladder cancer, during these treatments I had two infections and had to take antibiotics. Since then I have had trouble irrigating, the water goes in but nothing flushes out,it’s as if the water is being absorbed and then during the day it oozes out instead of a blowout. Has anyone else has this problem? I’m not stopped up it just oozes out all day long. I have been irrigating for over 30 years with problems here and there but nothing like this.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Danny,
How long since you've stopped the meds? I'm sure you already know this, but antibiotics can wreak havoc on your system. Water going in and not coming out sounds like dehydration? I would stick to your routine, maybe hydrate more than usual, and use common sense hot water to irrigate. I have experienced issues like this in the past but it usually works itself out after a week or two.

Best,

Thanks Murph, I did kinda figured it was due to the meds, but it’s going on a month now. I have had two or three days of good flushing including today so maybe it will work itself out. I also though about dehydration.
Thanks for the input

Have you been taking probiotics? You need to repopulate the flora of your digestive tract after taking antibiotics. Better, take them while on antibiotics to prevent the upsets.

Infectious diseases doctor told me the strain of probiotics isn't too important, you need those "good guys" to consume all the nutrients so "bad guys" like c. diff don't take over.

Should you desire, hitting your colon with a little Kefir or Greek yoghurt isn’t going to do any harm. (assuming, of course that you’re not immunosrpessed etc). Antibiotics have a lot of unintended effects...

Trying to get fragile bacteria through your digestive apparatus and down to your colon intact is difficult to say the least...

(If you remember “the Road to Wellville”:

(Kellog) “Nurse, take him upstairs and give him seven gallons of yogurt”

(Patient) “there’s no way I can drink seven gallons”

(Kellog) “Oh no son, you won’t be drinking it”

Ah, just stir up a cup of whatever you intend to use with your usual irrigation amount. If you leave the cone stuck in your stoma for a few minutes prior to draining, it will distribute better.
