Steve:
You poor guy . . . Your intestinal tract has ricocheted from last week’s partial obstruction and snail-paced, slow motility to today’s episode of high volume output and diarrhea. Events like this are emotionally draining and no fun.

The doctor’s advice to take two Imodium caplets is likely why your stoma output has lessened to the subsequent 850 ml. Two Imodium caplets can really put the brakes on the intestinal tract. Two caplets, in hindsight, was more then you needed. But hindsight is just that . . Hindsight, information gleamed after the fact. Now you know that if you should have a similar occasion of diarrhea to take one Imodium caplet as a first response. Wait 15-30 minutes. Take one more Imodium only if the diarrhea persists.

Taking Imodium to curtail active diarrhea can have the effect of causing constipation. The pendulum swings too far.

With time, you will become better able to gauge what you need to keep your intestinal tract semi-happy and humming along. You will know when to consume grape juice (to nudge to action the intestine moving too slowly) and when to take an Imodium (to ease diarrhea or too rapid transit time).

As for today, do not be concerned that the 850 ml output is too low of volume. I would not have you reaching for a bottle of grape juice just yet. Give your body time to naturally rebalance.

Perhaps have a 50%-50% mix of grape juice with water as a rehydrating fluid for the remainder of today and tomorrow.

Green stoma output is evidence of bile. When motility/transit time is too fast, bile secreted from the gallbladder and bile ducts is not fully metabolized by the upper portion of the small intestine and is seen as green-ish stoma output in the pouch.

Do not ever worry or be embarrassed by being descriptive of output, poop, gas, bloating, mucus, etc. on this forum. This forum is Ground Zero for discussion of all things ostomy.

As you continue to heal, your intestinal tract will calm and issues that are frustrating today will no longer be challenging.

I hope that tomorrow is a better day for you,
Karen

300% in agreement with Sassie about gratitude to Button/Karen! So wise, patient, helpful, supportive, especially when life is not easy for you. Always comprehensive, reassuring responses filled with FACTS. Yes, THANK YOU!

Steve, I hope you'll be getting back to "normal." I wonder about consuming electrolytes to regain balance. I'm not a fan of Gatorade and sports drinks due to the sugar but surgeons usually prescribe it before a colonoscopy so...? Maybe Nunn Hydration or even Pedialyte? Just a suggestion but am unsure if this is wise. (Karen/Button would know.)
