Hi all,
Right now, I'm not considering this procedure but it's hot off the press in Wound Management and Prevention (March 2019, Vol. 65, no.3) so I'm posting. The wound care nurse at the hospital gave me a copy. It's stamped "Do not duplicate."
This is for ostomates whose abdomens are uneven due to creases, previous scars, skin caving in, etc., which creates problems when trying to get an ostomy appliance to adhere -- and can lead to leakage. Surgeons use grafts from one's own fat from the knee or thigh area a few times and inject it into the appropriate site on the abdomen to even out the contour. As I just posted elsewhere, I'm using the material from the stoma hole I cut out from my Convatec Durahesive wafer, Stomahesive strips, and sometimes seals.
But this is an option to improve the abdominal contour and appliance fit. The researchers and physicians are from the University of Pittsburgh.

Diane: Thank you for posting this new procedure to improve quality of life. It shows that our surgeons do care about us beyond the initial ostomy. Will be interesting to see how this option is implemented in future.

You're welcome -- re my posting this article. It seems innovative and helpful. I'm not considering it -- yet. We'll see. ENOUGH surgery for now! Wound is healing -- it's time to exercise!
abbyjoy58, in another thread, I explained that yes, the ileostomy helped alot with my chronic and difficult constipation. Please see what I wrote there as I provided links, an organization to contact, and quite a bit of info. Good luck to you!
