Noise control

Post by Hansenryan1 »

First time reaching out as I’ve had this pouch for over a year now. Getting acclimated to the lifestyle. The most difficult part for me is embarrassing noise. I was hoping someone knew of any products to muffle the sound completely even if temporarily as I experience anxiety about it sounding of in undesirable situations. Would love to be more confident and secure knowing the sound won’t stir up another awkward situation. Thanks ahead of time!

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24747&p=212716&hil ... ll#p212716 This was a solution that a user named Nancy came up with that worked for her. If link doesn't work, just type in foam ball in the search window and it should come up.

I just start coughing. But most know I have it and if I'm around them I just let it go.
But coughing when it "farts" works. That works with a pouch or end ileo. As long as it's a short bout of noise.

Look derisively at the person nearest you and say "Dude". Seriously I knew a person who made a terrycloth pouch cover that muffled the sound. The trick is to keep the pouch from fluttering.

Are you in the U/S ? in the UK we have access to the Coloplast Plug .It's a device that looks like a mushroom .You push it into your stoma, it swells ,and reduces a lot of the noise .It isn't without problems but it certainly helps .Good luck .

The best way to noise control is reduce the amount of gas. I do this with charcoal capsules from amazon. I take 6-8 capsules a day around meals and it reduced my gas output by 90%. Even when it comes out it’s a small puff. I’m a dentist and my stoma is by my patients’ ear so this was a big deal for me.
All the best!

I've been at the dentist when it decided to get active.

Check out the www.stomastifler.com - but I do agree, best to reduce the gas production .. which may also be done by managing food choices that make you gassy ...

If you are still bothered by noise, I’ve been doing some improvements on my muffler invention. Send me a pm and I will answer back with more info on it. The little foam ball, some neoprene material and Velcro are all you need. It costs about $3.00 to make one.

Not to be tacky but I can fart with freedom and glee and nobody knows it except me. Works great.

Aw Jeez, JimBob, now I'll need to figure out how to make that work out.

Let's see:

Here's the original: "Not to be tacky but I can fart with freedom and glee and nobody knows it except me. Works great."

If you have an ostomy and you make noise
it doesn't matter if you're girls or boys.
If you have a muffler you will see
it's not a problem to feel free.
Not to be tacky, but I can fart with freedom and glee
and nobody knows it -- well, except me.
As Ben Franklin said so many years ago, "Fart proudly"
and I'll add that it can be "Fart loudly."
The muffler simply turns it into a "puff"
So you can feel free to do all kinds of stuff.

There you go!

Regards to all,

Nancy

I think Nancy should give us all an update on her newly improved invention .I bought the stoma stifler - it's an expensive contraption which requires using a pump - I'd give it 1/10 for effort .I bought the colon silencer - it's a piece of foam attached to a shaped piece of plastic .Did it stop the noise ? nope .the stoma muffler is a large piece of supposedly sound reducing material which you put your bag into .You look like you've got a bomb under your jumper - a very noisy bomb .
So Nancy - give us the low down ,let's have a show down , and silence the noise for good :)

My favorite bit of trivia to contribute on this subject was someone (can't recall where I read it--perhaps here) whose father referred to his noises as 'barking spiders.' And someday, I intend to use it.
