Re: Does anyone take a bath
Did you try a bath with a bag that had been on a couple of days? Did it hold or do you need to put the strips on around the wafer? I also use Convatec and have only had mine for apx. 6 weeks so I'm in a learning curve. Thanks

I’ve taken two tub bathes in 3years. I took them on the days I change my pouching system. I have a two piece Sensura mio which I love. I also use Hytape which is a great product. I normally take a shower with my pouch off ,I have a illestomy.

I read the comments listed and got brave enough to try it myself. I didn't run the water very deep or very hot but had no problems at all with the appliances. Go for it!

Sounds like I'm not the only one missing tub. Hate showers, love to soaking warm tub. Only 6 months into colostomy. Think I'm doing well. But miss those soaks. Very relaxing!

Re: Does anyone take a bath
Problem with heat is sweating under the wafer and loosening of the adhesives or mold creation (via condisation) which can result in premature leaks, itching or even complete failure resulting in a nasty blowout mess.
I've learned to adhere my barrier adhesive (pectin paste) very well to my skin by using oil free eye makeup remover to remove and clean the area (use no water yet) and then washing the cleaned area three times with plain ivory like soap and a very soft scrubby to remove that (and dead skin) off the surface of the skin so it's absolutely pristine and sneaky clean.
So that along with barrier strips around the wafer to reinforce it's hold I'm able to take lukewarm showers daily but try to minimize water/heat contact to avoid sweating or moisture generation under the wafer (or edge pealing) to avoid mold growth.
When I have a bag change day I will take a hotter shower and that seems to loosen (along with a little pealing) the barrier and wafer adhesives better but I don't remove it the wafer and barrier adhesive completely and do that and rough cleaning at the toilet first to avoid messing up the shower.
I'm using the Mio lite convex with a chest scar divot and a belly fold yet get a steady 8-10 day bag wear time with an illeostomy (three times the average 3 days). However other products may hold even stronger when subjected to water and heat but may be more difficult to remove.
So for me, currently paying full price for my ostomy supplies (until my new insurance kicks in), $30 a bag with gear is rather pricey so I'm not risking any hot tub although it likely would handle it but soon fail otherwise like I've learned previously by taking too hot of a shower.
So I would go with the hot tub or bath with a good secure bag on ones bag change day with barrier strips in place so if one feels a blowout if the barrier adhesive occurs they can quickly get out of the tub.
Cleaning out a hot tub isn't a whole lot of fun especially if one can't bend over very well.

I visit Japan almost every year and I take baths all the time there in the apartment I rent that has a Japanese style bathtub with the shower outside of it where you wash first. It's higher and squarer that my US bathtub and extremely comfortable imo. No problems with premature leakage....
Ileostomy due to UC - 50 odd years
