Edgepark Data Breach

Post by NEskier »

I just got a notice in the mail from Edgepark about a data breach. And apparently I am one of the lucky ones who was affected. Supposedly there was not access to SS numbers, CC numbers or financial account information. But they could have all the other useful stuff such as name, address, birthdate and health insurance information. I suppose the only good thing out of all that was going on Medicare 7/1 and not having changed the info on Edgepark's page yet!

GRRRRRR - any one else affected?

Doesn't surprise me. I dealt with them for decades until the incompetency became intolerable. Fortunately, I was able to find supplies locally. Cyber crime has become so very sophisticated I guess we are all doomed to more of such breaches. Hopefully, you have no serious effects.

so sad but it is why i refuse to do my stuff online, because the scammers are smarter then the people who set up the website and they seem to find a open back door. and then were all in a mess.. I also found local but otherwise i would use the phone but not the net... Best of luck in getting things fixed.

Just now saw this. I didn't get any email -- I think. I was finally going to order -- and through them. Guess I will not. They have my data. Hmmmm. Many thanks!

I called Edgepark. A hacker tried to get in and retrieve passwords -- and then other data. Did not get mine. Odd reason. I hadn't placed an order recently. I was in the hospital and the home health nurse was doing this for me. But I did have a password and had used Edgepark last year.

TODAY I need to order. Hmmm. Edgepark has been super reliable and gets me the products I like. I may switch to Byram. I need to explore some products but do want Cymed MicroSkin although I've rec'd NO samples as promised going back to January. I wonder if Cymed is experiencing financial challenges. The company is small.

Seems to me that it wouldn’t make any difference. Whether you enter the data via the net or they take it over the phone the information is in their system.

Understand Bill and you may be right but i prefer to avoid alot of things on the net anymore because they seem to be able to get what they want , mostly because my yahoo was hacked and then they used info to purchase items thru paypal to the tune of 900.00 when my bank alerted me and got it stopped...so i am very leary of net use now...to each his own but seems everything is now put on the web i guess your right nothing is really safe.. i'm lucky there is a place close to buy from.

Diane C -
I can't speak about Edgepark, but since you mentioned Cymed, they seem to be very backed up right now. I spoke with a lovely fellow named Louis Verhoeven who reached out and was kind enough to offer direct assistance. Louis.Verhoeven@cymed.us - He mentioned the sample system was very backed up but that folks were ordering product in order to try them. If you want to try them, I'd send him a note to see what he can do to help.

Andrea,

Thanks so much for this info. Hmmm, if Cymed is backed up, I'll stick with Convatec or the new "bendable" Coloplast flex wafers. I've procrastinated on ordering since I have extras from my days as a colostomate but will order tomorrow. Unsure if I'll go with Byram or Edgepark. After that Capital One breach, I understand why folks stay below the radar but I guess I feel if someone really wants your data, (s)he can get it. Encryption seems key. I bought LifeLock -- but will that help? It sure is a different world.

Anyway, thanks so much re this info. Cymed was such a responsible and fabulous company with unique products. I hope they can climb out from the backlog.

Thanks for the tip, Andrea. I ordered some samples two months ago and never received any sort of response. I contacted Louis via email and he replied today that he has processed my request and the samples are coming.

Still no word from Cymed and disappointed. :( Did not order Cymed this time as I was starting to run kind of low.

Out of curiosity, do most of you order for 1, 2, or 3 months at a time if you use Medicare? Things seem to have changed. I need to sit down with a book about Medicare and my health insurance which is tops. Definitely need to review ALL my insurance statements as I did use Edgepark which claimed I didn't meet my INSURANCE deductible yet. Hmmmm? Much is covered by Medicare (which I do pay for) but I rec'd a whopping (for me) co-payment of about $150 when I ordered 3 months of supplies. That may have been too much in quantity, especially as I may wish to switch brands and the gal on the phone was not the most patient in letting me divide up my order among manucturers. Doubt I'll use Edgepark again. I just found out I could have ordered 2 months' supply -- one month of one product and one month of another manufacturer. She seemed to need to use a lot of math and I don't think it was so complex. Never was before.

I have some research to do! Will call Blue Cross tomorrow. Hmmmm!

I don't know about Edgepark as I use Sterling-McKesson. I'm on Medicare and never got a bill as I use my beginning of the year Medicare deductible on doctor visits. My supplemental insurance pays the other 20%. I do have a $25 annual deductible from my supplemental for DME but I have never been billed for that by S-McK.
I order one month at a time as it is enough for three months for me.

My supplier takes orders for two months at a time. I used to order from the Mayo Clinic Store, and as i recall they took orders for up to three months. The important thing for me is not how often I have to order. It is, do they accept Medicare assignment and are they reliable? If they take assignment and if my quantities are within what are allowed by Medicare then between Medicare and my Medigap policies all costs are covered. Finding a supplier that accepts assignment is getting harder these days, as the assigned prices are low. So, most people probably wind up with the big nationals that accept assignment, such as Edgepark (I assume that Edgepark accepts assignment, why else would anybody use them?) and have to deal with a never ending shuffle of faceless agents on the other end of a telephone line. I have been lucky. I deal with Desert Providers, in Arizona, and they accept assignment and they are simply great. There are three people who pick up the phone, I know all of them, they are honest and prompt and highly(!) competent. And personalized: My supplies aren’t the “off the shelf” variety, so they order special for me ahead of time and have them ready to go when I need them. For anybody who has a Social Security address of record in Arizona or California I highly recommend them.

Well, Cymed... hmm. He replied and told me that he processed my order for samples. But I have seen no samples. So, I don’t know what is up with Cymed. I’ll give it a bit more time...

I clearly need to study this further. I spoke to "Joan" at Mercy Medical and she's SO knowledgeable. I was in a rush with this order I made thru Edgepark and now regret it. I also think 3 mos will be way too many supplies. Must call my insurance and get everything straightened out. Wish I'd gone thru Joan/Mercy or another provider mentioned above. In 3 mos, I doubt I'll use Edgepark again. The service was never so poor and left me with questions. And a big bill I question.

As far as Cymed... NOTHING. Btw, Joan at Mercy can't order Cymed for some reason. That line is more costly. Let me know if you hear from them.
