Post by Lockhart305 »

What products can you use for skin irritation under the wafer? Do to the itching i'm having to change my wafer ever 2 days. I use stoma powder and barrier spray currently. Any suggestions? Skillet

Have you considered that you might be developing an allergy to the barrier? There shouldn't be any itching under it. Try getting samples of another wafer and see if you still have issues.

I agree with texazgal. You should probably request samples from other companies or see an ostomy nurse. Twice since I've had my permanent colostomy (2004), I developed itches under my wafer.

The first time I was months following my surgery. Seems yeast infection, jock itch and athlete's foot are all caused by the same fungus. I got athlete's foot in high school. Ostomy nurse recommended "Antifungal Powder with Miconazole Nitrate 2%" . By Coloplast Problem solved

About 2 yrs later, I developed an allergic reaction to Convatec. Ostomy nurse switched me over to Hollister.

I am currently using Coloplast SenSura Mio. Very pleased with it.

Good luck,

I’m quite new to this still, but I get irritation/itchiness when my seal starts to fail and I get output on the skin. Is it underneath the barrier near the stoma, or right out underneath the adhesive wafer? If the former, I’d see if your seal can be improved - I was switched to Coloplast Sensura Mio Convex and that seems to have helped a lot. If the latter, then indeed I’d wonder about an allergy as others have said.

Cheers
Rob
