ileostomy reversal after rectum removed and have all sorts of questions
I am 6 days post surgery for ileostomy reversal. I had chemo, radiation, then surgery to remove my rectum and was reconnected. I was given a temp. ileostomy for 6 months while I went through more chemo. to allow my reconnection to heal. I have read through the forum and haven't seen any problems like I am dealing with. I am having almost constant peanut butter consistency of stool which sits right in my anus, which has caused such soreness and bleeding. I cannot push it out, it will fall out in a teaspoon amounts over time but I can sit on the toilet for over an hour and get about a Tablespoonful out. I will go through the process of cleaning up and get up and have to go back in to the bathroom off and on for hours. I am not having any pain from the reversal wound, I am just miserable because this is happening day and night. I am not on any meds except for Tylenol. I am eating the prescribed low fiber diet, 5-6 small meals, drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day and walking 20 minutes twice a day when I feel like I am not going to have an accident. I am wearing Depends with an additional pad, which I change frequently because of the stool leakage that I don't want to stay on my bottom. I always dealt with constipation before the cancer so I am wondering if I am going to continue to have these problems. Any advice or encouragement is welcome.
