Need Help Replacing Discontinued Ostomy Product

Post by nivram »

The short summary of this topic is I have used an ostomy product that is now discontinued and I need to find a similar replacement, so I need your experience and advice when it comes to a wafer and pouch!

Please read below and let me know your thoughts. I really appreciate any advice or recommendations you can provide.

I've had my ostomy for fifteen or so years and during that time I've tried several different styles and types of ostomy products. However, my rock solid and reliable choice has always been a clear open ended pouch and wafer two piece system produced by Hollister.

My choice has always been the Hollister 3702 Center Point Lock Skin Barrier Flange 2 3/4" and the Hollister 3802 Drainable Pouch is based upon reliability and ease of use.

Example Flange: https://www.medicalsupplydepot.com/Osto ... 9cQAvD_BwE

Ease of Use: I find it is very simple to detach the pouch, empty it, wash it out completely in the sink, and re-attach. Its fast, takes minimal effort, and is clean as can be. This also extends the life of the product.

Reliability: I double clip the end, this way, if something happens, I have a backup clip saving me from an embarrassing scene. Just as important though, the bag and wafer have a good bit of plastic which connects the two pieces together and provides a good snap that will not easily detach unexpectedly. They last several days and tend not to leak. If the wafer starts to leak, you have time to feel it and catch it before you have a clothing issue.

Unfortunately, Hollister discontinued the product and I've had great difficulty locating and transitioning to a different two piece system. I went so far as to scour the web and buy up all the remaining product I could find, however those sources are now empty as well.

Do you have any experience or suggestions for a two piece ostomy system that is similar to the above description?

A two piece system, reliable, no comfort felt so you can wash it out, and will stay snapped together?

It doesn't need to be clear or transparent.

What I have tried recently and doesn't work:

I have tried the Hollister two piece comfort pouch system with disappointing results. I quickly discovered that the wafers don't last and leak easily. They are super low profile and as such do not have a lot of plastic between the wafer and bag to provide a solid snap and connection between the two so they can unexpectedly detach. Finally, while the soft material on the pouch is comfortable against your skin, you can't wash them out without that material soaking up a bunch of water and you can't have that between your skin and pants.

Again, do you have any experience or suggestions for a two piece ostomy system that is similar to the Hollister 3702 and 3802 system?

A two piece system, reliable, no comfort felt so you can wash it out, and will stay snapped together?

It doesn't need to be clear or transparent.

Thank you sooooo much!

Hello,

Let me refer you to a previous discussion thread from about 6 months ago at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26773 started by user Elizabeth who had been using a different product in Hollister's discontinued "CenterPointLock" line. And I refer you especially to the reply by "MikeyB" on the 2nd page of that thread at viewtopic.php?p=225933#p225933

MikeyB's reply referred to products in the "Genairex / Securi-T USA" line. This has traditionally been a line of lower-priced ostomy products intended as sort of "generic" ostomy products. It was revealed recently that the Genairex/Securi-T USA products are actually being made by Hollister, so can be considered an additional line of (lower-cost) Hollister products that don't carry the Hollister name. And it turns out that, although Hollister discontinued the "CenterPointLock" series, some two-piece Genairex/Securi-T USA products are very similar to the discontinued CPL products.

So, check out the Securi-T USA site at https://www.securitusa.com and see their transition guide for (regular) Hollister products at https://www.securitusa.com/hollister-pr ... ion-guide- (Also note the Hollister copyright notice at the bottom of those pages, consistent with the fact that Hollister makes the Securi-T USA products now).
