So glad to be back posting about another excellent issue. "There is Hope" by Ed Pfueller, UOAA Communications & Outreach Manager, is a fitting tribute to the memory of the child whose tragic death after being repeatedly bullied last year touched so many of us. About gospel singer, Damon Little, and his own childhood experiences which have given him depths of insight and empathy to support UOAA outreach. May Mr. Little and his wife continue to bless others through their very special service.
"Then and Now" by Sally J. Gill-Thompson ET, holds special significance for me as I had the privilege of hearing her mother speak at a UOA Northeastern Conference hosted by the Southern Tier Ostomy Management Assn. (S.T.O.M.A.) of Binghamton, NY. (Which my initial support group held a very long time ago.) Under the direction of the Miss Jean Laux, RN ET. A pioneer in ostomy care & beloved by all of her patients.
Among the other many fine articles are "Virtual Help for Ostomates" by Nancy J. Tallman,RN, BSN, WOCN, et all. Which explores an exciting new way of reaching out to those with ostomies through cyber technology. The eye-opening "Hospital Care Lacking" by Raymond Elvey which defines a very real & present problem in today's medical world. And "Caring for Children" by Sharon Osgood, RN, BSN, CWON, CCCN Coloplast Clinical Consultant. A comprehensive & compassionate guide for parents, care givers & all who protect our youngest and most vulnerable members of the ostomy community.
And I have found another 'Hero' in this issue. Dr. Chandrakant Modi. Who himself having a urostomy, devotes his life to helping patients all over the globe with Flying Doctors.
As the apply entitled article about Damon Little states: There Is Hope!
