Best Enzymatic Odor Eliminator disappears

Post by Longtimeileostomy »

Hello Everyone, Thirty seven years ago I had a total removal of my colon due to ulcerative colitis. I got a temporary ileostomy while my inner J-Pouch healed. The nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN (called an “ET” or Enterostomal Technician back then) recommended I use a product called Ostozyme because it was “the best skin and stoma cleanser.” Odorless and non-toxic, it worked like a charm. After I had to have the J-Pouch taken down and given a permanent ileostomy in 1995, I’ve been using this wonderful product non-stop. Now in this disrupted year 2020, I’m told it is no longer available. I am at a loss. My question to anyone reading this is, do you know of any other comparable product? I tried ordering a wash by Convatec (too soapy), and a deodorizer (too thick because it is also a lubricant). This product, Ostozyme made by Shelton Medical Products in Dayton, Ohio was THE BEST. Any suggestions? Thanks! Maria

Hi Maria,
I see Ostozyme described as a pouch lubricant and deodorant, not as something to clean skin around stoma. I use M9 pouch deodorant and it works like a charm. To clean skin around my stoma I use a tissue to clean off the Eakin seal gunk then warm water only. Have never had a problem and since discovering M9 have had no odor problems.

Check activeforever.com,they list Ostozyme.

Have you called the people at Parthenon out in Utah? That supplier has been around for a very long time & may have more information for you.

Hi Sandy, I don’t need a deodorant for the pouch. I need an enzymatic cleaner like Ostozyme because it completely neutralizes whatever ileostomy output gets spilled by accident as I have a pretty active ileostomy with very runny output. It’s a must have in a travel situation (not right now with the pandemic in full swing, but still, when we are back to “normal”), and if there is a stain in clothes or bedding. I already use mild soap and gunk removers (by Hollister) to get rid of Eakins seals residue. It seems there is nothing out there as a substitute for Ostozyme. The other products like M9 are geared for pouch odors which is not my case at all. Thanks for your input, though.
Hi To Dream a Dream, I used to get the Ostozyme from Parthenon in Utah. They were the ones who told me it was not available anymore. Boo-hoo!! Maybe I was the only person in the whole world using this wonderful product? I think this pandemic has really turned companies upside down. Maybe Ostozyme disappearance from the market is a direct result of this disaster. I don’t know. But I appreciate you taking the time to suggest contacting Parthenon. Thanks.
