Colostomy and urostomy

Post by JLD13 »

Hi just wondering if there is anyone here with both a colostomy and urostomy. I’m posting for my brother. He is 40 years old with a history of colorectal cancer. He was diagnosed at 36 and had chemo radiation then a permanent colostomy. Recently before he turned 40 in august they found a mass in his bladder that was found to be a reoccurrence of the colorectal cancer. He just completed a rough 4 rounds of chemo and now looking at getting his bladder removed and getting a urostomy. Thankful that the cancer is nowhere else and they believe they can cure him by removing his bladder. He’s going through a lot right now obviously and just wanted to get some advice or suggestions or maybe connect him with someone who has been through something similar. Sorry if I’m rambling. Thanks for reading.

Hi there, I'm sorry no one has chimed in yet, please feel free to read previous posts and check in the archives to see if there are any older posts that might provide you with information. I can't help you and I have been gone from this board for several years and it is much quieter here now than I recall it being. Life catches up with all of us at some point, I'm sure there is someone here that has both types of ostomy who can assist.

Hi Jill.

baglady was an ostomate who had both a colostomy and a urostomy. She unfortunately passed away a few years ago. But, if you search her posts, you may be able to find some of the answers to the questions that your brother is seeking. Hope that helps some.

Jill: Have you checked out the UOAA website? It contains a wealth of info on a number of subjects. Here is a link to articles mentioning urostomy: https://www.ostomy.org/category/urostomy/
I personally don't belong to social media, but I think there is a Facebook group that mentions 'double bagging it' in its title. My best to you & your brother.
