severe flank pain post colostomy and colon resection

i just had surgery saturday. the post op pain has been unbearable. pain was not managed in hospital or upon returning home. my only saving grace is that i can smoke weed at home. is it normal to have such pain in back and sides

Please alert your doctor. Any post-op pain of such severity should be reported to your medical providers who will know best how to proceed. Thank you for joining our board discussion.

Am so glad your doctors are aware of the flank pain. Severe pain is always a concern. I had similar a long time ago post-op & it signaled an infection unrelated to my GI tract surgery. Thankfully my doctors were able to treat it with antibiotics. Hopefully, you will be helped soon. Having just gone through major surgery, you need to be able to concentrate your energy & strength on recovery. Not struggling with intense pain.
