Help with getting a PICC Line dressing change

Post by Ezmay »

Hi. I'm an ileostomate who has a high output and have been receiving daily saline infusions for fluid replacement through a PICC Line. I am visiting my parents in the Largo / Seminole area for a couple of weeks but need to have the dressing on my PICC Line changed once per week but don't know where to go to have it done. I've asked at a couple of Urgent Cares but they don't have the trained staff and told us they're not allowed to do it, telling us to go to Emergency. We went to a hospital Emergency Dept. yesterday to check and though they said they can do it, it costs A LOT for the initial part of the visit and I don't know if I'll be able to claim that when I return to Canada. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions? If all else fails my Mom will do it - she just hates doing it! So, I have a back-up plan if there is no where else to go.
Thanks.

Welcome to our Discussion Board. Have you tried our official UOAA website? https://www.ostomy.org/
It contains much detailed information. If you do a search (which will also search our discussion board), you may find a lead. The UOAA has lists of their local chapters that may help as well.
Please continue to follow us here on our board. And enjoy your visit.

Here's another place that you may find some answers: https://www.wocn.org/
It's the link to the WOCN Society.
Hope the weather is pleasant in FL.
