Sorry again to rehash old topic. Horizontal vs. vertical.

Post by JP66 »

So, from YouTube presenters it seems as if horizontal placement of your bag has numerous advantages, but to me it seems as if that is outweighed by the disadvantage of not being able to properly drain the bag. Vegan Ostomy has a video on this topic and found adding a lubricant to his Hollister 2 piece allows him to rotate his appliance.

What do folks here do? How many folks here use a Stealth Belt in the horizontal position?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I have 40 years of wearing it vertical. Others may differ. I figure it allowed me to sit on the toilet and empty easily.

For me, no belt. Just the flange, one with a paper tape edge, and the pouch. I wear regular underwear and just fold up the tail and tuck it in.

I learned my ostomy pre-internet so it was all what seemed to work for me.

Thanks for the input!

Obviously I'll learn once I have my own ostomy, but for now I'm definitely leaning towards a vertical placement.

31 years here, and I agree with just about all of this. Brava strips and pink tape instead of a paper tape edge, though.

Well, my memory is getting bad so I don't remember previous discussions on this topic...lol...

As usual, I agree with NEskier - I really couldn't even imagine the reason for wearing it horizontal unless the person is bedridden or something similar...it seems peculiar to me.....and no belt either...

I've never watched a YouTube video about placement of ostomy appliances...YT wasn't invented when I had my surgery... ;-)

Vertical for me as well. I use a belt and a horizontal placement would not work.

3 for 3 vertical. Reading the websites for ComfortBelts and StealthBelts I got the impression that many if not most folks were opting for horizontal placement, but it seems not so much. Kinda didn't make sense to me anyways so glad to hear vertical is what long time pros use.

Thanks for the input!

Vertical with belt. Sleep on back and right side only.

I think horizontal only if bed ridden and unable to walk, thus one can drain their own bag. I did so into a series of cups or urine contaii because nurses often were busy.
