Hello fellow Ostomies,
I went into Manhattan for my third consultation regarding a reversal. I was very excited because the 2nd surgeon was willing to do it immediately.
The surgeon said that he was leery of performing the reversal surgery, due to my history of chronic constipation, and the fact that I can perforate again and that he would have to operate again. (I can not believe that I am discussing this abnormal function) Anyway, he said one way was to attach small intestine to, I am unsure of where because I got upset and started crying. Then he said that I need a GI and a much dreaded colonoscopy who is a specialist in Motility. Of course, I've never heard of this and wish I had, since my gut in an unhappy environment for many many years. My questions are: why was the other surgeon so gung- ho because they wanted to schedule right away after the colonoscopy, which made my head spin. He never mention motility. The doctor in Manhatten has great reviews and bio, and I understand that if he just "performed" the surgery without the motility study, my problems still exist and I definately do not want to perforate again. Has anyone had or heard of a motility specialist? What a motility study entails, and am I going in the right direction. In addition, my primary care doctor put me on Iron and Stella (Ostomy) is having great difficulty producing. I am losing blood somewhere and the iron is killing my gut. I stopped taking the Iron today because my chiropractor said it was ludicrous since I am gut-challenged, and I didn't produce for 4 days. Anyway, I hope that I can get some knowlege and possible answers. Thanks for listening. ps...If this document is confusing, it's because I am ADHD...

Re: Motility
My sincerest sympathies for your medical condition.
Am I correct in hearing that your losing blood and/or not had a bowel movement of some sort in 4 days?
I think you need to get to the Emergency Room quickly and perhaps try another hospital system and get some more opinions.
ADHD is difficult, you need to make visual notes in obvious places and discipline yourself to concentrate.
Don't be afraid of sharing your mental condition with your doctors etc. neither because they can adjust for that and call you etc. to remind you to come in etc.

I get knocked down, but I get up again
