Granuloma issue
Okay my acidic output problem has been solved since I've been off coffee. Burns are considerably less and almost a non issue anymore.
What I do have is a granuloma. Had it for as long as I remember just the burning output was a greater problem at the time.
I've managed to shrink it down to almost skin level by having a looser belt and cutting a better hole in my wafer which I'm trying to ensure it's not off center when applying.
However it seems to swell and irritate itself all on its own somehow and I'm trying to identify what causes it. It tricks me into thinking it's a leak and thus I replace the bag. Sometimes if I ignore it, the irritation goes away all on its own. Especially if I sleep.
It's not bleeding and it is sometimes irritating and almost nearly gone, but seems to occur whenever. I'm trying to determine what is causing it to swell.
Blood pressure? Body temperature rise? Certain foods?
So outside of getting it silver nitrate stick treated, is there anyway to get it to go away?
What things I haven't covered could be causing it?
Thanks

Re: Granuloma issue
I've ignored the irritation and it seemed to have shrunk and stopped being irritation..still on the same bag so won't know until I change it out.
I noticed the paste does harden up and ache, which I ignored that also and has seemed to disappate.
It's hard now to know what is a leak ache and if it's something else. Before on coffee the leak pains was so bad that it was rather easy to tell..
Also my scars under the barrier strips still ache, as well as the exposed scar tissue. So any advice to counter this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Granuloma issue
Well I tried stacking up barrier strips to hopefully take pressure off the granuloma and it didn't seem to work.
I noticed the output always ran to my right side, right where the granuloma is. It's because the pouch sits lower on that side.
So I stuffed a pillow under my right butt cheek and the pain seemed to go away almost instantly when the pouch was more level, even if there was liquid output around the stoma.
It's not the wafer digging into the skin, I have a barrier strip protecting the granuloma and a wafer notch.
So either it's a leak there or something else entirely. I do sleep on my back and right side so perhaps somehow something I'm doing is causing it to be irritated.
If on my back flat, there is a slight stress on my right side, so I'm going to try to avoid that and see how it goes. Prefer to use my left side to rest on.

Re: Granuloma issue
I've been practicing laying in my back only, with a pillow under right cheek to keep the wafer level and pressure off that right side. Also babying the wafer very much as to avoid irritating the granuloma. So far it's been working.
I think I've identified the problem as being caused by the belt. With the wafer more level the belt pressure seems to be more distributed along both sides, instead of an overwhelming amount in the right side.
I've been using pillows on my left side to keep me from rolling onto the left side and causing a blowout.
I'm kind of debating with all the extra barrier strips etc, that using a belt is even beneficial anymore. It might be because with the granuloma irritation might serve as a warning sign I'm placing too much stress on the wafer through my movement actions.

Re: Granuloma issue
Definitely the belt, so it's off.
I have been putting on maximum paste to cover entire wafer area, half a tubes worth, creating a wall around the stoma and waiting on my back for a few hours to let it harden up and protect the granuloma.
Extra large barrier strips all around to hold things down.
It's been working, but I'm being careful as well.

Re: Granuloma issue
Okay update, although it has shrunk considerably it's still a bit there, but manageable.
What I do now is, on very clean, very dry, oily and dust free skin, press a half tube stream down of no sting paste around the stoma and then another one around that one.
I have my wafer hole precut and apply petroleum jelly to the inside of the bag through the wafer hole to prevent it sticking.
Press the wafer on like normal and blow dry heat dry the flange down, then the exterior barrier strips.
I do not apply the belt, rather waiting about an hour or so on my back for the thick paste to harden up, then when it feels hard, apply the belt.
What this does is protects the graneoluma from the digging effect of the wafer and pushing out the paste also.
I ensure a one finger only under the belt tension.

Re: Granuloma issue
Two things helped me w granulomas.
One was hydrofera blue. You need another dressing to hold it in place, the stuff is not adhesive, but it helped when I was having recurring issues.
The other was to switch to a one-piece, as the Tupperware was the culprit provoking the things. I was slow to make that change, as I couldn't get a secure one piece until I discovered soft convex systems, but I made the switch years ago and no problems since.

Re: Granuloma issue
Thanks I'm on a one piece. It was the thin application of paste, it not setting up and leaving it exposed to output combined with the belt pulling the wafer to dig into it.
I've remedied those issues now and it's shunk to skin level. Still there though.

Re: Granuloma issue
Graneoluma has nearly disappeared..I only barely feel it sometimes now.
A new otosmy wafer application process has helped me cure the skin right next to the stoma where the graneoluma is. So it's no longer being irritated by output.
Oh happy days!

Re: Granuloma issue
Granulation tissue, the correct terminology instead of graneoluma.
Anyway it's down to just a minor irritation with no raised surface off the skin.
If the wafer is on a little too tight I'll feel it, so I'm making more sure to float the thick paste and allow it to harden up some before going vertical or putting a belt on.
If I do it right I won't feel anything for awhile but sometimes the belt pulls the wafer when moving and that will irritate it a little, so I loosen the belt or adjust it etc.
