Okay I want to take a plane trip and canisters are not allowed and take too long to come by ground shipping so I explored alternatives.
There is a difference from construction type adhesive removers and skin friendly adhesive removers.
I tried.
Neutrogena Oil Free Eyebrow Makeup Remover
Walmart Brand Oil Free Eyebrow Makeup Remover
Goof Off citrus based adhesive remover (from a hardware store)
I applied three patches of paste onto my skin (not under the wafer) and allowed them to set up and tried each one.
Both the Eyebrow Makeup Removers did well however I think the Neutrogena one worked slightly better. No red skin afterwards on either.
Goof Off says right on the packaging not to use on the skin and they were right. Washed it off with water and the skin remained red and irritated, but eventually went away.
So last bag change I used the Neutrogena product to remove the old paste residue and it did a good job, however I won't know how well the new paste held onto the skin until next bag change, so stay tuned. Note that I did wash the area well with water and a washcloth to remove any trace.
I previously tried rubbing alcohol to remove paste residue and that failed pretty bad plus it irritated the wound (and my crotch) as some touched it while cleaning.

Re: Tried other than ostomy approved adhesive removers
Okay, used the Walmart brand of Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover to peel the wafer off with by pouring a little bit along the edge and crack like a spray, seemed to work just fine
Used the Neutrogena brand to douse a toilet paper and remove the remaining residue left after scraping whatever I could away. Seems to work out fine.
I'm worried about build up where the skin gets over moisturized and the paste won't stick so I used just a little soap and water very lightly scrubbed around the area and rinsed well so the skin became squeaky clean, litterly, it actually squeaks when rubbed around the stoma.
I also resorted to preparing a wafer in advance with all my modifications and three bead rings of paste laid out for a quick slap operation before I take a shower. I know quite well by now how the skin around the stoma should feel like when finger dry tested. Novices should likely.test the paste that it sticks to the skin first before putting a wafer on or wind up wasting it if it leaks later on.
My method to dry the skin around the cleaned stoma is by using a towel, then blow drying the area, then using fresh toilet paper to dab around the stoma and soak up any moisture using a fresh piece each time. Finger dry run test results with no moisture on fingers when rubbed together afterwards. Wounds must remain dry, if they are oozing stoma powder very very light amount covered by spray skin protectant is required to create a crust.

Absolutely fantastic!
The liquid oil free eye make up remover really works well. And very gently washing the area with a little soap and water to remove any residue slickness left behind also works better than just plain water.
My bag hold was marvelous and I just removed it as a matter of a three day routine, not that it was leaking which it wasn't. My peristomal skin is healing.

Re: Tried other than ostomy approved adhesive removers
A small leak caused by rinsing to aggressively perhaps, I felt the cold while rinsing, was time for a bag change anyway. This time I did it while it's still somewhat active still which was a slight challenge. But the preparation for a quick slap and a blow dryer reduces the exposure time.
Before I was taking a lot of time because my paste wasn't sticking as well to the skin so I was being more careful in my preparation.
So what was the problem all these many months? The spray adhesive remover sold by my ostomy company absolutely s*cks.
The oil free eye makeup remover works so much better when it's doused onto toilet paper and soaked around the area instead. Then a light soap and water wash and the skin is squeaky clean.
So now FINALLY, I can get my speed up and learn to slap that wafer on anywhere quickly instead of only on my back after a half and hour of preparation.
I'm also testing stacking three wafer cutout pieces on my right peristomal graneoulma belly fold skin side as I was feeling some irritation there.
I also have a belly button scar tissue that's very sensitive that I've been covering up with thin cardboard, so I need something better for that so the wafer adhesive or the barrier adhesive doesn't put any pressure on it.
I also have a exposed scar tissue on my chest that I need to find some way of having it not contact anything because it gets irritated.

Re: Tried other than ostomy approved adhesive removers
Three stacked wafer cutout pieces worked better that two to keep the wafer and bag off my graneoulmas.
A bigger piece of thin cardboard for my belly button.
An extra barrier strip along the bottom and on top of the right side belt hook to hold the bottom wafer in place better as I was having leaks at the bottom of my stoma.
Still need to figure out how to protect my exposed scar tissue. Just been cleaning it and applying more skin lotion to prevent chaffing by clothes and bedding.
On the last leg here hopefully.
