For the past 8 years I wrote articles for the Phoenix. I interviewed and wrote about many incredible people of all ages. One of the magazines greatest assets was introducing new products and book reviews. Also there were articles about those of us beyond 65 years old. I dearly love the UOAA but they are hyper focused on young people with new surgeries. The struggle of senior citizen ostomates coping with dementia, crippling disabilities, diseases and not so caring caregivers is given only occasional notice. With the decline in bowel surgery for UC and declining number of wound nurses, it makes one wonder about the future of the UOAA.
Just saying.....
Has the Phoenix Magazine folded?

Re: Has the Phoenix Magazine folded?
Hi Raymo,
I wrote an article and submitted it to the editor a few years after my ileostomy surgery and talked about the struggles of suffering with Major Depression when I had my ileostomy surgery in 2007.. though the article was never published and I see why. The article stories published In the Phoenix are focused on major figures that are well accomplished in life. I was a University student working on my degree in Biochemistry. Then I later switched to Wildlife Photography. Today I am a Professional Wildlife Photographer. I found that the editor apparently found my experience with Major Depression as I was going through the surgery just didn't align with the magazines type of personality figures that the Phoenix wanted to write about. I found that since 2007 when I initially became a subscriber of the Phoenix magazine, there was never any articles written by anybody that suffered with Major Depression when they had their ostomy surgery. I found that to be very concerning to me. Anyhow, other than that, I found that the articles regarding vitamin and mineral deficiencies were pretty helpful.
