Re: Durahesive

The smoother the skin prep, the less the adhesive holds onto it has been my experience.

Sprays seem to do the smoother coats then say the PREP dabber bottle which creates a rough surface.

Also I think people don't clean, nourish and degrease their skin properly before applying adhesives so this makes a product like Durahesive attractive, so what happens is in many cases the Durahesive is too strong and now they need to dial it back some using more coats of spray skin prep.

Once I learned this trick:

1: Use oil free eye makeup remover to remove wafer, scrape off whatever then soak the thin residue and rub until the skin is completely clean.

2: Then wash 3 times with ordinary plain soap (like Ivory). Dry well, any bit of moisture and allow 60 seconds of fan waving to dry. Before applying anything. Skin prep allow 60 seconds to dry per coat. Stoma powder before that? Another 60 seconds of fan waving. Dry. Dry. Dry.

Also fingers got to be clean, oily free and dry as well as they touch adhesive.

3: Use nothing but ostomy approved and compatible products under the wafer. For instance Coloplast PREP dabber bottle and their spray skin protectant are not compatible.

4: And lastly heat, time and even pressure to cause more molecules to bond to what you want it to bond too. I use a toilet paper tube and a good 5 minutes of pressure through the wafer to get my 6, 7 and now even a 8 day wafer wear cycle without needing the extreme of Durahesive.

One has to mimick lab conditions as much as possible and heat and pressure is used a lot in chemical engineering.

Thanks. Everyone!

Success! Durahesive convex two piece with Eakin seal has given me 3 to 5 days wear time which is great. Plus Essenta adhesive remover and barrier wipes.
