Giving Imodium AD a shot

Post by Shamrock4806 »

I've done all I can diet speaking to get control of my high output illeostomy so I've turned to giving the loperamide a try.

Can tell you this the mint liquid tastes absolutely horrible. I picked it because I thought I might need fine control. But the taste makes it not even worth it especially since I need to take it every 6 hours as I eat all during the day and night.

I got the Multi Symptom version for gas too, in pill form on account I been having gas pains.

So in another 6 hours I'll try the pill version.

I just hope I don't start pancaking that would be the worse.

Okay good results, ate sushi and had an ensure with chocolate which usually the chocolate gets me runny but it could on account of going over 10 RDA fat which the ensure is only 8%.

So now trying my pasta meal which I usually only put a few tablespoons of lemon ricotta herb sauce but this time I added a quite a bit more which should trigger the fatty watery response but I took an imodium AD caplet with the anti gas feature.

Let's see how it goes. 😊

I'm liking the more food freedom I'm getting on account of the loperamide.

And I weigh myself often and noticed a slight weight gain already. Wow! 😲 This is just day 1.

Sushi cleared smelling a bit less worse than normal.

Chocolate Ensure of course turned the world black as expected.

Gained about a pound so far. Output a bit runny near the end of the 6 hour pill cycle. So the 2mg caplet normally prescribed is performing as expected

Ensure causing gas will discontinue.

The Imodium AD multi symptom is definitely having a positive effect, I'm absorbing nutrients better and it shows in my skin tone. Should have been on it a lot sooner, they did prescribe it to me after I got out of surgery but it was the prescription type so I didn't have my act together then. Should have just told me to use Imodium AD instead.

I've reduced it down to just late mornings an hour or so before I eat my bigger meal along with vitamins then another bigger meal late afternoon when the Imodium AD is still in effect.

Gas pains have disappeared but noise factor has gone up, not SIBO as far as I can tell.

Going to give Bean-O a try.

Bean-O works, two pills before a meal eliminates the gas. Not a problem for the illeostomy neither according to AI.

I've also upped the salt in my rehydration solution and that's had a positive effect as well. Less frequent dumpings of watery output.

Here I thought I had a high output illeostomy but it's been my ORS all along. 🙄

Okay idiot me has been drinking solely from a cup with a lid and a metal straw, so no wonder I've had gas.

So now I'm off the Imodium AD on account the stronger OS should be causing less watery frequent output and off the bean-o for the gas.

I'll see how it goes now.

Taking one pill early and one in the evening, so twice a day.

I slow drink my homemade oral rehydration solution throughout the day and night as needed and nothing else and that replenishes what I lose through output and urination/sweat. So less watery output based on that. Just needed the food to be processed slower and two Imodium seems to be enough for me..I tried four and got pancaking as a result.

Okay I'm doing okay with a regiment of

Bland foods lite on the solid proteins mixed with plenty of starches and a little fiber. Loperamide 2mg twice a day..no roughage like vegetables or fruit (well chewed bananas, watermelon and cantaloupe seem to be okay in small amounts), no acidic, no caffeine, no alcohol, no artificial ingredients (even naturally derived ones). Nothing spicy (irritates the stoma opening) not overly salty (triggers watery output). Nothing fried or fatty, cooked in fat (watch out for prepared foods!).

Drinking only my homemade ORS of 4.5 tablespoons of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon of Lite Salt, 2 shots of sweetened red cranberry juice (all natural, nothing artificial) to 64 oz of water.

Daily vitamin supplement gummies especially a bit high on B12 since it's harder for body to absorb B12 with an illeostomy. I work with ChatGPT putting my diet and vitamins in and it identifies any gaps..it also helps me identify why my body reacts to certain foods.

I'm pretty regular now, a lot less bag dumps and can sleep for hours at a time without worrying about the dam bag. 😂

Jesus it took a long time to get to this state, lots of trial and error.

I'm sure I could do even better. But finally I don't feel as miserable as when I first started this illeostomy thing.

I've found the store version of loperamide is substantially cheaper than the brand name Imodium AD but doesn't have the anti gas. Anti gas of Imodium AD really wasn't working, only broke up large gas bubbles to prevent discomfort but didn't get rid of them. Having some mixed success with bean o as it introduces a different bacterial enzymes I believe. Not using it enough because I'm not out enough that illeostomy farts will matter much. 😂

So I'm working on the gas angle now and that could take some time identifying what is doing what in my diet.
