frequent leaking around ostomy pouch

Post by IC »

Two weeks ago I had my bladder removed and an ileal conduit "installed". My stoma is rather close to my navel and not particularly raised up above my stomach skin level.

When I left the hosptital, they had me use a Convatek pouch and wafer plus a raised Hollister barrier. Over the past week, the pouch has been leaking near the navel area, where I can't get a level seal.

Does this happen to everyone at first or should I be worried that this will be an ongoing problem?

I plan on meeting my ostomy wound nurse this week. In advance of that, any advice on ways that I could extend use of the pouch before leaking occurs? I've followed the procedures given to me, but can't seem to make things stick.

Thanks for any and all advice
