K-pouch Pro's & Con's

Post by jlg »

The love of my life, Renee', is having the K-pouch surgery the first part of May at the Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Fazio. She has an external pouch now, 20+ years, and is excited at the thought of not having it.
We have read the many comments on this board and have learned much about the K-pouch. Wanting to know as much as possible, she is asking the members for their advice and experiences, good and bad, with their pouch.

Thanks

What a great guy you are!
I had a Kock for 24 years and never missed out on anything,
I did experience a slipped nipple valve which the doctor by me was unable to repair so I had an external pouch for 2 years. January 06 I had a second Kock done by Dr. Fazio. I am going 100% and very happy to have had a second chance.

What specifically do you want to know?

jlg,

I have a very similar situation. I had an ileostomy for 13 years before Dr. Fazio changed it to a Kock pouch in 1990. What a great decision I made ! Your girlfriend will be fine and will be happy with her decision to do this. Please feel free to contact me or have her contact me with any questions.

Good Luck to your wife ... I had an expernal pouch for 15 years and Dr. Fazio performed a successful K-Pouch surgery on me March 14. Tell her it is amazing to live again with no external pouch attached to me. I'm sure she will be pleased when recovery begins. It's painfull after surgery but worth every ounce of pain.
