what's the difference in different internal pouches?

what's the difference in different internal pouches?

Where do I find out the differences in the different pouches? I see the terms K-pouch, J-pouch etc.....can someone educate me please.

K-pouch means that you have to use a catheter (inserted through the abdomen) to empty the pouch. A J-Pouch is hooked up to the anus, and you empty the J-Pouch the "normal" way.

thanks...we are looking for the k=pouch type...is there a difference with that and a BCIR

The premise of the Koch Pouch and the BCIR are the same, merely different names for the doctors who devised them. The BCIR's were originally done in a few centers around the country, but now are only done in their Florida Center. The Koch pouch is done by Dr. Launer in San Diego, Dr. Fazio in Cleveland, and Dr. Bauer at Mt. Sinai in NYC. I would be glad to answer more of your questions anytime. My Koch pouch was done by Dr. Fazio in 1990.

We have some interesting sessions planned for the National UOAA Conference this August in Chicago. If you can attend, many of your questions will get answered and you will get to meet folks who have had these surgeries. It would be a fantastic opportunity for you.
