need advice from the experts

Post by anita »

My daughter currently uses a cecostomy to empty her bowel but we want to switch to an internal ileostomy. She is 13 and we live in Rochester, NY. They do not do the procedure here and we will have to travel somewhere, but the closer the better. Rochester is an hour east of Buffalo. I would like to hear where people have gotten their procedures done and what their experiences are....who is great at doing this? I read about Dr. Fazio in Cleveland which is not so very far, I undertand someone at Mt. Sinai in NYC does it, but I don't have a name or information about how well it goes there, I have also heard that they do it in Hamilton Ont...which is probably the closest but I'd like to hear of others experiences there. I just don't know where to check this out. We would also like to consider changing my other daughter's (who is 10) ileosotomy to an internal one, so I need this information. We'd like to do this soon. St. Petersburg either has the best PR or does the most procedures, but it is so far from us. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks[/b]

Hi Anita
Dr. Fazio is terrific.
Dr. Jeff Milsom and Dr. Joel Bauer are in NYC. Both have good outcomes. Milsom studied with Fazio.

The BCIR and Kock are very similar. The BCIR is done only in Florida and my understanding is that the hospital stay is longer. And yes, they do have the best PR being that the places/doctors that do Kocks do not advertise.

The best way to gain info is to read through this site and try Kornerhttp://j-pouch.org/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5531006091

if this doesn't work go to www.jpouch.org and then to the Kpouch Corner discussion and start reading.
