K. pouch catheters

Post by k.p. queen »

I have had my K. pouch for almost 20 years and have had only the typical idiosyncrasies involved with the surgery (after 5 revisions in the first 2 years). My biggest problem is finding a CURVED 30 French Medena (Torbot) catheter. I have been searching everywhere for them since they have been discontinued. (Including e-mailing the company in Sweden!) Does anyone know of a company that still has some left??? I have tried the other catheter on the market and need 3 hands to irrigate and hold it in place-ugh! Thanks to anyone with information on this quality of life issue.

I've only seen the straight Medena 30s.
But you can try this; I use the Marlen straight 30..however I store the one I am using in a cup (the one I use for water to irrigate) with both ends down. As a result the catheter ends up curving the way I like it.

Thank you, I will try it. I have tried the Marlen before and found it difficult to use when irrigating (which I do almost every time I cath). It is crunch time since I am down to my last Medena catheter. Part of my hesitation is that my valve was/is constructed for a 30 French curved Medena catheter and it has molded itself for that shape over the past 20 years. The Marlen is not curved and is "floppy" and I did have difficulty in cathing due to my valve shape. I still dream of finding a stash of curved Medena catheters. Wish me luck!
