does anyone cath thru thier belly button and have weird sens

Post by blueslover »

I cath thru my belly button and have started to be able to feel an uncomfortable feeling in the area of my urethra ( which is nonexsistant) and other most secret places if you get my drift. The feeling is not very pleasnat either. I talked to my Uro, he was at a loss, I talked to my pain control doc, he thinks that it has to do with the sympathetic nerves, he says he has another patient going thru the same thing only he is male. I asked him about the prudendal nerve but he thinks maybe no. anyway, just want to throw that out there. He wants me to think about a sacral nerve stimulator for pain control anyone have one? I had one for IC but it was different ans had a different function.

I cath through my belly button through a mitrofanoff stoma, and sometimes I get a strange sensation in my urethra, and the doctor told me its because I'm hitting the top of it when I cath. It doesn't happen often, but to me its very uncomfortable, because it causes my bladder to spasm. The only trouble I have been having with my stoma is that it keeps bleeding off and on and when I get to the flap at the my bladder, it hurts really bad to put the catheter through it. I have to see my uro tomorrow for a cystoscopy to see what's going on.

Are you talking about a TENS unit or the Interstim Sacral Nerve Stimulator? The TENS unit is for pain relief, but the Interstim device is implanted in you to fix incontinence.

Little Eva & Jessica

What kind of strange sensations are you talking about. Does it only happen as you cath and then go away when you are done.
I know that it only happens once in awhile for you Jessica but what about you Eva?

The sensation I get in my urethra when I cath is sorta like an electrical shock and spasm pain. My uro told me that its because I am hitting the top of the urethra when I cath through my mitrofanoff stoma, and there's really nothing they can do about it. It only happens once in a while, but when it does, its annoying and uncomfortable.

Hi Jessie!

Is it fleeting or only as you are cathing or does it stick around for a while after you are done cathing? If so, how long does it last? Is your pouch located down the middle of your ab between your belly button and pubic bone or is it off to one side.

Cathing thru the belly button

Post by Basha »

I've just joined the group...been cathing thru the belly button since May. First want to say -Great to know there are others like me. I too occassionaly have discomfort when cathing. It can be a shooting pain, but goes away once everything is in place. It appears to happen more often when the times between voiding are longer.

weird sensation

My pain doc told me this occurs because the nervous system has not realized there is no bladder/ urethra.

I have also begun getting blocks in my caudel/ sacral area about every 4-8 weeks and it helps with the discomfort and the weird kind of sensation. . It is almost like an electrical current that goes down thru where my urethra used to be. The pain doc said it is caused from the basil ganglion cells in the cental nervous system and the nerves are bascially over stimulated.
