Post by rikki »

whenever i visit my folks i'm really careful about being clean but my dad is a huge pile of germs. i don't mean to be disrespectful of him but he has had a massive stroke for almost 30 years and has no sense of cleanliness anymore. my wife worries sick when we visit that i will catch the staff infection from him. so far i've been lucky. how dangerous do you guys think this is for me.

As long as you don't visit when you have open wounds and you keep your own hands and such clean with antibacterial soaps, you should be alright. If you are really concerned, I would speak to your doc about it, and the risks. As your doc knows your system better than any. But, catching MRSA from just being around people is not really high. It is when one does not wash their hands and such that it becomes and issue. I would ensure that you don't eat off of plates or touch things that he has touched if you have open sores. Keep any 'boo boo's ' covered with bandaides and antibacterial ointment. Use some iodine on them each morning and night..........to keep any potential germs out of there.

I agree that you should talk to your doctor about this and get their thoughts on what you need to do.
