pouch possiblities

Post by polly »

Hi Everyone
O.K. here goes. My husband has UC and also a colostomy. 13 years plus. Now 4-5 weeks ago he obstucted. Surgeon came in and said lets consult with colorectal surgeon. Today we learn that we have two options for my husband. First either a Brooke illeo or a internal pouch. My question to all of you is what are the benefits of the pouch and please by all means tell me everything. We are learning and need to make a educated decision on this. He has his rectal stump intact and the possiblity for our 4 young sons to have a dad without and ostomy is incredible. Please tell me good, great, bad and ugly. I want to know. Thanks so much Polly

Polly,

I have had both - a Brooke Ileostomy for 13 years and then a Kock pouch since 1990. Please feel free to contact me by PM and I will be glad to answer your questions.
