A little quieter around here with most of our first flush of fledglings out on their own. Our second nest of robins, unfortunately built too low in the Rose-o-Sharon off the porch, was ravaged by marauders one dark & stormy night. Poor little birds . . . Owls. Serpents. Hungry mammals, including barn kittens. The odds pile up against them. Always amazes me that any of our birdies reach full maturity before their first trek South.

still a pleasure to read your post and yes the eastern shore Maryland is a great place to watch birds and rafters . i saw a puff of feathers and nothing else ,those hawks are fast ,we have coopers and sharp shine here as others . A sad day when we lost a brood of bluebirds this summer ,still affects me and i know it is the way of the wild ,and now thinking of the Houston area ,heart strings are tugging... but cheers to you two for your post ,here is a smile for all ,be well and safe

Hi Tom: Just saw your post. First Houston. Now Florida. My heart goes out to all. Hopefully, Jose will veer off harmlessly into the north Atlantic & become a 'fish storm.'
