Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Karen, yes, I forgot to ask this second surgeon about the Septa film. The first surgeon told me that since it was not medically acknowledged yet, it would be my decision whether to use it or not. I have a consult with the surgeon on January 24, to go over all the test results and schedule the surgery, and will inquire as to what his opinion is on it.
Once again, thank you for talking to me.

Update? How is your husband? How are you?betula wrote: 2019-01-06 16:37:35 My husband is currently in the hospital for another obstruction. We will find out more tomorrow whether they will do surgery or not. On one hand we want it because we feel we have tried a lot regarding, diet, staying hydrated, stretching

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Hello there, just an update on my surgery, as you've been so helpful. Its scheduled for a couple of weeks from now, and its going to be open surgery. The doctor said, it will be relatively simple if there's not a lot of scar tissue, but more complicated if there is, might have to cut a bit of the intestine etc. Looking forward to it, as I'm so tired of these episodes, and being afraid to eat, etc, but at the same time a little scared. I'll be in the hospital for a few days afterward.
Will keep you posted. P.S. I thought I had posted this before, but do not see it. I apologize, if you have and this is a second post.....................paula

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
An update on my scar tissue removal surgery which took place on FEb. 13, there were complications and had to have second surgery on the 20th. Stayed in hospital until last Friday. I used to have a colostomy now I was given an illyostomy (I know its spelled wrong). Anyway, a horrible experience, very thin, and have to eat to keep up strength, even though there's no appetite . Very hard to move. Glad to be here, though and hoping things will get better. Thank you.................paula

I am so so sorry to hear that the surgery intended to make life better for you took an unexpected turn of events - requiring a second surgery and a protracted hospital stay. You’ve obviously been through some rough patches.
I am glad that you are home and reunited with familiar and comfortable surroundings. I hope that your recovery moving forward is one of slow and steady gains. Everyone here will be sending you genuine healing wishes.

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Very interested in the subject of scar tissue and adhesions -- NOT caused by radiation or chemo -- but by surgery, esp when it's direct, open surgery. So thanks for posting all this. Will read later as I think I'm experiencing some pain and abdominal bulging because of this. And wondering if this can affect surgical wound issues.
Hope the pain lessens!

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Thank you, Karen. I'm slowly getting better. Still very hard to get around, and after having a colostomy for 16 years, and being so used to it, this ileostomy, is very hard to get used to, as the output is so much different, and have to empty bag several times a day, so just really being at home, walking in the backyard, etc.
How are things with you? Your husband???

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Whew, I feel for those of you with small bowel obstruction.
Years ago, I disliked yoga -- found it too slow and boring. Now, I like it. With age, health issues and wisdom? Also love qong with emphasis on breathing. Mine is shallow despite yrs of meditation.
Karen, do you have any idea how long one might wait after getting much surgery -- like me -- before having abdominal deep tissue massage? Probably depends on the healing process... 9 mos to a year? I used to do this regularly in the 80s -- since I was constipated, I had intestinal (and other massage) but it got costly and don't think it helped that much though felt good at the time. When I had back surgery in 2006, the PT massaged my scar to prevent scar tissue. I wish I had done that myself by January although once the scar area bled and my touch was not that heavy. My GI doc DID say to massage Vitamin E over my scar NOW where my colostomy and hernia were. Wish I had kept that cod liver oil I had so long in my cabinet. (I do ingest Omega 3s -- fish oil.) At times, I feel a dull ache or nauseating sensation under the scar on my left side which I sense means the tissues are still healing. I'm pretty sure I need to wait before deep muscle massage. No, I truly don't think my doctors would know.
I'm concerned about gnawing pain I feel sporadically in the upper thighs, especially when I stand too much -- e.g., ushering at the theater. At times, I just must sit down. I don't know if the nerves that were cut in my abdomen have an effect on these nerves but would guess so. I know men have experienced pain in the pelvic area or above. Never experienced anything like this and it's not daily.
Note that I broke 2 bones in my left foot at the end of Feb. Saw the foot doctor and he says I have 3-6 more weeks of wearing a boot. I also wear an "Even-Upper" on my right shoe to even out my balance and posture. I may need exercise. At the least, I will stretch. Unfortunately, I can't easily walk (forget swing dancing) right now. I don't think the pain in my thighs is related to the foot bone breaks but more that my mobility decreased or it's the nerves -- sort of a "drawing, long pain" -- not dull. Wears me out. I can do exercises in a chair, leg extensions, safe balancing ones on my right foot holding a chair, lift light weights with my hands, etc. The visiting nurse for my wound asked if I wanted a PT. No -- those exercises are easy although having a PT come forces you to do them. I will schedule them myself -- maybe while watching tv. So many appmts are getting intrusive and I'm way behind at home. Taxes, bills. My bp was 88/50 on Wed. Today 91. Will hydrate more. Lousy timing falling and breaking foot bones. I attribute it to total lack of abdominal tone and need to improve my balance. Had to postpone going to a PT 3x/wk. Look forward to that!
Have also been losing what hair I have.
It's SO thin. Surgery was Nov. 1. Stress affects hair and I already had inherited alopecia. I'm taking collagen for my wound in Juven -- but not helping my scalp.
I believe in "energy work." Donna Eden has some short youtube videos for that. Acupuncture points, etc.
Thanks for any thoughts, folks.

Re: Scar tissue from previous surgery
Hello there, as per my previous posts, I had 1 surgery to remove scar tissue and then something went wrong and had another surgery, after which I was in a very precarious situation. Anyway, I thought that this would correct the symptoms I had before, which are severe cramps and severe vomiting, which took me to emergency several times, but after 4 months I ended up again in the hospital, admitted for 3 days. Very disheartening. Doctors say I might have to deal with these symptoms for ever, but if so, why have the surgeries?? Any insights? Thank you so much as always
