I have a stoma that points to my belly button in a belly fold which is my weakest point, so if I pancake it blows right through there.
I solved the problem by doing three things:
1: Using oil free eye makeup remover as an adhesive remover and pectin based paste remover as it really cleans the skin better. It has to be followed up by a plain soap and water washing and rinsing a few times to remove it from the surface of the skin. But afterwards the skin is extremely soft and squeaky clean. So very GOOD bonding of the adhesive barrier is important here.
2: Next I use pectin based paste which at the weakest area I can place MORE behind the typical ring around the stoma then cover just the more paste part with half a barrier strip. This creating a wall of resistance that forces pancaking the other way and up into the bag better.
3: After the wafer is applying use the extra large barrier strips going around the wafer flange as tape, exhaling and stretching them out a little working from the center over the belt hooks and hard plastic part to place downward pressure on the wafer. This eliminated my need for a belt which was moving around too much and causing me to lose my seal.
4: I also use the wafer hole cutout cut into strips and placed around the circumference of my wafer convex bubble outside edge. This ensures any downward pressure does not squish out all the paste.
So these three things have helped me but must important is a near liquid output diet which is easier to do without a colon.
I'm sure consulting with an ostomy dietician can help you formulate a diet that causes lots of diarrhea which would accomplish that goal.
Good luck.
