mitrofanoff leaking

Post by superauntie »

Does anyone had trouble with their mitrofanoff stoma leaking often?
Ever since my surgery in 2006, my mitrofanoff stoma leaks often during the day, despite me cathing 5-6 times a day! Its really starting to get on my nerves, especially since I still have to wear diapers to contain the leaks.

What did you do to get the leaks to stop? I'm on bladder medicines, but they don't help one bit (I'm on Ditropan XL).

Hello, I also am on Ditropan. It's worked REALLY well for me...

I find that mine leaks if I don't cath enough. I don't really know... try cathing more? Are you on the "I go when i feel I need to" or the "cath every X number of hours" plan?

I'm on the "I go when I feel I need to". Something tells me that I'm gonna have to cath more often from now on. My primary doc told me that I should talk to my urologist about trying that pill called Enablex, because it works very well for some people who still leak on Ditropan.

My internal urinary pouch leaks as well and it is 16 yrs old. I use dicyclomine and that is help. It is for bowel spasms, and since my pouch is made of bowel that works better for me. Bladder meds dont work on me any more since my"bladder" is really bowel, so I need to take meds designed for the bowel.

My mitrofanoff stoma is made of appendix. I'm on the maximum dose of Ditropan you can be on and still leak constantly. I'm gonna see the doctor on Friday and hopefully, he can do something about this. The leakage is also affecting how long I can wear my skin wafers for my ostomy, because one side of them is constantly saturated in urine.
