Find Cancer Support

Recently, at one of our local support group meetings, there was a speaker from a local cancer support group. They do have groups all over the US, and I am sharing the national link with you all. I hope that you can find a group close to you. They offer all sorts of sessions and different support aspects that one may need.
Most local groups will have a website. Here, in St.louis, they have a website. But, the one below is for the National.

Lee Ann,

Thanks for the information. I'm sure there are so many that will be greatful to contact this website. I found this number also very beneficial when I was going through cancer. They gave me so much information: 1-800-4-Cancer.

Happy :)

cancer support questions

Hi- I am newly diagnosed and in a very early stage. I have a million questions that are a bit premature for this group (although I love this group and have learned a whole lot!!!)..

I checked out the website you gave and I live in too small of a community too far from the ones posted in No. California.

I googled colon cancer support on line and there are SO many and lots of those seemingly for local communities.

Does anyone have a recommendation of an online colon cancer group as good as this group?
Thanks

Jan

Jan,

Since you are in a more rural area, I would call your most local hospital to see if they have a support group. Good luck and know that we are here to help you in any way that we can.
I wish and pray that 2009 will lead you to a full recovery.

Knew nothing about deciphering good medical info from bad 10 years ago when I started trolling various colon cancer and ostomy message boards and mailing lists. The one I found that is, by far, the best run mailing list is at http://www.acor.org. Select mailing lists, then select the group where you fit and subscribe.

Many of the list members are MDs or other medical experts who have had CC. This list discourages discussion of treatments that haven't gone through official clinical trials. There is a separate ACOR list to discuss alternative treatments. The direct link to subscribe is:
http://listserv.acor.org/archives/colon.html

There is a research and treatment blog here:

We in Southern CAlifornia have had great support from the American Cancer Society. Look for me if you need housing during surgery as ACS is great!

The American Cancer Society is the best! Chapters are even in small towns and villages as in my village of Idyllwild has two chapters servicing 1400 citizens.

If there is no chapter form your own. Takes two to tango!

We have the wellness community here in Delaware. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this program. I try and use everything they have to offer and the people they employ are just the nicest most caring folks I've ever known!

Hey LeeAnn, a very active site is
http://www.inspire.com

It's loaded with kind, caring, experienced folks like this site but has groups specifically dedicated to certain conditions. You'll find comfort there.
Sincerely,
Michael A

CCA is a great group and you can learn a cazillion things by just reading the blogs and responses. Often people post nutritional advice, etc. there is also a live on-line chat. http://myccasupport.org/forum
