Stool softener/laxative for BCIR

I would like some help from those who use some sort of additives for fluid flow with a BCIR. I am allergic to Lactulose. Currently, I use prune juice 2 times a day and take Aloe Vera juice (1tblspn) 2 times a day. The Aloe was recommended by the alternative health store. While this method works most of the time, I do have to watch the "constipating" type foods that cause problems. Any ideas? B/c I cannot take capsules and don't want to take the laxatives from over the counter, I wonder if some of you have discovered some remedies. Thank you so much, Dahlia

When I had my BCIR I could never get the prune juice down. I used 100 percent grape juice. Also they say a glass of red wine can help. When things would get really bad I would take magnesium which I picked up at the health store. Usuall it was not a huge problem unless I was on Cipro.

Thank you, Cookcreek, for your reply. I have used the grape juice but didn't work so well for me. I have heard about red wine and tried it but don't really drink so that was a problem. Yes, Cipro can be a challenge. Thanks for the idea about the magnesium. The doc said I must absorb a lot of water in my BCIR pouch and that I must drink more water. I drink so much now, I will float around my day. Again, thanks so much. Dahlia

Hi this may sound nutty, but if I really need to get my stool loose, I can eat some sugar free candy. It acts as a laxative and I get a sugar fix. Too much Vit C in addition to magnesium acts as a laxative as well. Other then that, apple juice, grape juice, lots of liquids with meals, etc.

I also have a BCIR. If I drink about a gallon of liquids, my out pt is as smooth as silk. If I am not taking in enough, I will drink some apple juice which runs through my system.
