My 16 year old daughter has a connective tissue disiorder and had an emergency ACE procedure in May due to her cecum and colon not functioning. Two months after the procedure she had to be admitted again because the ACE had perforated.
She underwent a second surgery and although we thought everything was good, the stoma has collapsed.
This is pure torture for her. We have been told that the only thing left now would be an ilieostomy Spelling:),. Our biggest concern is that she is now allergic to all types of tape and bandages. This of course could lead to major infections.
If anybody could please help us we would be so grateful for any suggestions you have that we can discuss with the GI and surgeon.
Thank you in advance
Jody

Dear Jody,
I am so sorry that your daughter has to undergo such a terrible situation. I hope that you can find some assistance and direction. I had an illeostomy for 6 months and suffered from the tape/adhesive allergy. It was dreadful until I had the BCIR. How about trying an holistic MD to help with the allergic stuff? Good luck, Dahlia

I am sorry for what you all are going through. I too have multiple tape allergies and when I wore a pouch I was able to find two that did not bother my skin. They were Cy-Med Microskin pouches and Nu-Hope pouches- they have a foam backing and the sticky stuff they use did not bother me. There many, many options out there- they even have appliances that do not use adhesives. I also find that if I use the Cavilon No Sting Barrier wipes by 3M on my skin before using tape my skin is okay. I was able to find one brand of tape that works for me too. Judith
