Hi to all: My appendicovesicostomy- went very well. I got lucky and no bowel had to be added to the appendix. I have alot of pelvic wall
adhesions and the surgery was 6 hours long. so far so good. It was
scarry surgery because, I had this done for a dysfunctional bladder.
Not the normal bladder condition.

It will be 2 weeks before I can ISC through the new stoma.

so just wanted to update all.

Take care, Sally

Hi
My daughter who is 14 will be having a mitrofanoff surgery in June. I've been reading some of the posts and a couple seemed to have some major problems with not being able to empty. I was happy to come across your posting which seems to be a bit more positive. I would like to give her some positive reassurance because she is nervous about the surgery and even having the stoma and having to cath. But I also want to be realistic and give her all the information she can get. If you can help that would be great.

I think for your daughter this well be a great choice for a urinary diversion. After 2 weeks they will remove the stint from the
stoma and she will start to catherize through the stoma. It is easy and painless, mine never did hurt me in any way.

I did develop cellulitis of my wound which is something that can happen to anyone and mine did not work. BUT, I am so
glad I did this procedure and would do it again. It is a straight forward operation and I am very very sure she will do fine.

It is PERFECT for a teenager. No one will ever know she goes to the bathroom a little differently.

Tell her to relax and she will do great!
