external catheter and leg bag

Post by incontentmike »

I'm a 46 year old wheelchair bound male. I'm starting to wear an external catheter with a leg bag. Is there any problem, such as rash or allergies, with having these items right next to your skin?

There shouldn't be unless you have allergies to certain plastics.

I didn't like it being against my skin. Always moist and sweaty underneath it. I put a little cloth cover over mine and replaced the rubber straps with some elastic cloth straps. Just some ideas...

I've been wearing a catheter for the past five weeks because of a blocked bladder. It's a pain. My urologiist tells me that I might have to self-catherize. From what I've been reading, that would be even a bigger pain.
