continent iliostomy stoma coverings problems

Post by mets »

I had a Koch Pouch done around 30 yrs. ago and recently have had increased mucous drainage leaking out of the dressing. I use the 3M Stomaseal dressings with a piece of Stayfree ultra thin pad underneath. I've tried the AMPatches but they also leak. I also tried a Johnson's nursing pad but it seemed too bulky. Any other suggestions?

I really liked Curity nursing pads but can no longer find them by me.
Now I use Lasinoh nursing pads and have had no problems.

I collect soft hankies, I carry around clean ones and change whenever I cath. I used the nursing pads when I was a child, but hankies are just as good, and I save HEAPS of money. I just hold them up with my undies and use no tape. I never reuse them without washing them in a hot wash with bleach.

I use the Ampatch covers - they come in different sizes and different absorbancies along with different types of adhesives. Some stick better than others. If you call them and explain your situation, they will send you samples. I also use skin tec wipes as a barrier on my skin first. That has helped alot.

JOHNSON & JOHNSON FIRST AID BRAND WATERPROOF PAD 3X4 USED WITH A MAKEUP REMOVAL COTTON PAD WORKS WONDERFULLY
YOU CAN ALSO REUSE THE PAD, CHANGING THE COTTON AS THE ADHESIVE REALLY ADHERES WELL

I have always had a lot of mucous discharge.
I used 3M for years & loved the product but it no longer works for me - leaks too quickly - so I use them for swimming only. The larger Ampatches are better but I cannot find a source in Europe.
Best of all is a Convatec stomadress plus art # 964705 (Convatec 1-800-4228811) recommended to by a stomatherapist as easier on the skin (it is). They are expensive and I use these for mainly for 'events'. For some reason, I seem to go longer between irrigations with this product.
As a more economical solution for daily use, I found a 4x4 pad (My husband used these for after a minor operation and got some for me to try) from Vliwazill (#20340) works well with a extra waterproof backing (I got some of the bed pads used in hospital and cut them into the correct size. One lasts for months.#
Even more economical is an Attend product I get in Germany (www.attendshealthcare.com) "Coldex Endlos-windeln - Endless pads, - a rectangular endless roll without waterproof backing (I use the bed pad pieces) which you can cut to size - about 30 per package. A little bulkier but Cheap and fine for around the house or sleeping.
