I have had 5 or 6 infections this year called Probidencia Rettgeri, have been on both cipro and levaquin. My urologist has never heard of this type of bacteria, has anyone else had this, it seems very hard to get rid of. Any info would help. Sheri

I have never had that one either at least that I can remember. Since your uro is not familiar with it, maybe it would be worth consulting another uro or an infectious disease doctor. Sometimes just oral antibiotics don't do the trick and I personally have found that IV antibiotics work better. I am wondering if you have ever really gotten rid of it? Do they do a culture after treatment to see if you come back negative? Are they doing sensitvity studies to find the best antibiotic for the bug? Keep us posted, okay? Judith

Judith, thanks for replying, they do do a recheck and it sometimes comes back ok sometimes not so I get more antibiotics. My urologist is 5 hours from here, I see him in July, they had the Dr. here fax all info on this infection to them. We live in a small town and I'm the only one here with this procedure. When I spoke to the uro nurse, she said that it is unusual that I keep getting this since I have had my pouch for 15 years and have never had this type of infection before, actually only about 1 or 2 infections a year prior to this. I irrigate twice a day, steralize my catheters and am very carefull about washing and keep my stoma covered at all times. Maybe I'll have to ask about IV treatment. They do scope my pouch every year when I have my checkup, so maybe that will tell us something. Thanks again, Sheri
