Anal Irrigation?

Post by tsal »

Soo im waiting to have surgery on my bowel, & having an ACE put in, but in the mean time the hospital have given an 'Coloplast anal irrigation system' which to be honest scares me aloooot, but its getting rather desperate that i havent properly 'been' to the toilet in a couple of weeks :( desperate to just get it out and feel a bit happier again. The doctor did say to me, it might not work, but it also might. Anyway im just wondering if anyone else uses this? and what its like? I know generally its used for people with spine problems so it worried me that il feel it all too much and be a bit freaked out by it :( i wish i could just get over the scaryness of trying it, but it just seems horrible! Any advice would be greatly appriciated

Did you look up the system on line, on the Coloplast site? They do say there:

"Before using the Peristeen Anal irrigation system you must be assessed by a qualified health care professional to ensure it is appropriate for you. You will then be taught the method by the health care professional in order to obtain the best results."

Certainly hope that assessment and teaching has been done, to ease your fears and help you use it most effectively.
