I am researching information on doing a liver cleanse but am concerned because most of the products cleanse the colon first. Being that I do not have a colon, I am wondering if it would be safe. If so, ha

s anyone tried anything that works (and is safe)?

I don't know anyone who has done a liver cleanse let alone someone w/out a colon.
I wouldn't do anything like that unless I spoke with my doctor.

The liver cleanse is mostly to detoxify your liver and gallbladder from external toxins. There is a lot of information on the internet about it and it supposedly flushes stones from your gallbladder and cleanses the liver as well. Supposedly it is safe and natural herbs are used. It is usually taking herbs and milk thistle for a couple of weeks. Being that I have been on so much medicine my entire life, I thought it might be a good thing to do. I agree that it would be a good thing to talk to the doc. also. I am only concerned that if it does flush your system that everything would have to get thru a catheter. If you do research on it, it almost makes you scared not to cleanse your liver...maybe I'm thinking about it too much so I convinced myself I have to do it......plus I'm turning 40 this week and want to do everything I can to stay healthy!

delynn,
I have never heard of this before and would DEFINITELY check it out with your doctor before doing it.

delynn - I was advised by my internest who is heavily into alternative medicine to do a liver cleanse as my liver enzymes were high in my last blood test. However, she has printed up her own regime with various optional items of which the listed coffee enema was crossed off by her. I do not have a Koch just an ordinary ileostomy. Because of the regime's dietary restrictions - no dairy, no wheat, no fried food, no animal fat ex. lean meats et al - I have been eating a lot more veggies than usual. But so far no real problems. I don't know what you have read so can't add much more. But I would agree you should do this under medical supervision. Good luck!
