18 yrs w/ileostomy, thinking of Koch pouch surgery...

I had my Ileostomy surgery in 1988, due to Crohns and colitis. Complete removal of my large intestine, bowel, etc. Since my surgery I've not had one problem and have been told in the past that my Crohns could have been misdiagnosed. I've been hearing so much about the Koch pouch and am wondering if I am a good candidate for it if in fact my Crohns was misdiagnosed. I'm pretty sure my medical records from that long ago are not even available for someone to look at and make a determination if I was misdiagnosed. Can someone point me in the right direction? I did get the names of some doctors through this forum and plan on making a few phone calls for information on the surgery. Thank you for your interest in helping me!! Have a blessed day.

you'd definitely need to contact a doctor that is experienced with crohns, other than suggesting doctors we cant tell if you're a good candidate or not. your first step would be contact a doctor though. good luck

Sheryl,

You need to get a clear diagnosis of your situation before making any decisions. If you do have Crohns, an internal pouch is not an option.
