Botox Shots
I am hoping that someone here can help me. I have a neurogenic bladder and intersistial cystitis. I have had a supra pubic catheter in for two years with nothing but troubles. My Urologists here want a Urostomy done but they do not do them in any hospital in this state. I was told to go to a large hospital in Philadelphia but the Urologist there says the surgery is too much of a risk and it will not be much better than the supra pubic catheter that I have now. He did say that there is a trial going on with a series of Botox shots in the bladder. Has anyone heard of this or even know where they might be doing it? Right now, I am being dropped into the cracks as no one even wants to change the catheter evey 6 weeks because it causes so much pain. If anyone has any ideas please let me know as I am extrememly frustrated with being tossed around with no real solution.

The article at http://www.bcm.edu/findings/vol2/is2/04feb_n3.htm is just one of several that I found using Google.com to learn more about the uses of Botox in urinary disorders. You can see the others by going to www.google.com and searching on the words 'botox bladder'.
Most of us only know of botox thru the notoriety it has gotten from its cosmetic applications, but it's been around a long time and is used in a number of beneficial ways.
This link http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00194610 is to details of one clinical trial related to bladder issues that is going on, but it appears to be in the state of Washington.
This link is to a listing of all clinical trials using Botox, for a wide range of issues - you can look thru it to see if there are any nearby that you might apply to join: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/search?ter ... mit=Search
Good luck!

I know this is an older post but going to answer anyways.....I had Botox injected into the bladder to try to help the spasms from radiation damage....they use botox a lot with people with ITC...with great success.....I was unlucky...it worked a wee bit but not enough..so am now getting a urostomy on April 3rd 2008....
But I would tell anyone to try it...it is in clinical trial stage here in Canada with my urologist....it is painless...they freeze thebladder and inject between 100 -300 units of botox into certain areas of thebladder thus paralysing that part...and hopefully stopping any spasms......my urologisthas had great sucess with it...I was just unluck...and it is well worth a try if all else fails......another thing he tried was Uracyst which was placed into thebladder by catheter...for 6 weeks...whichhelps a lot of ITC people again...
Do go and talk about it ..it is worth a try and if it works can last up to a year then you just have it done again....
