Water amount and number of infusions

Post by Barbro »

When searching the forum for water amount I saw that some of you irrigate a number of infusions every time. How is it better than one infusion? How do you do it exactly?

And I also wonder how you figured out which water amount that is best for you.

It's trial and error for each person. Some use multiple infusions, some a lot or little amounts of fluid.

For my own experience, I put in around 1000cc of luke warm water all at once. I then have output for the next 15-30 minutes.

Het Barbro,

I usually do 2 infusions of roughly 1250cc and prefer the water on the hotter side. The first infusion gets the majority of the output or the heavier stuff and also takes up most of my time, 20-30 minutes. The second infusion I consider more of a cleanser. It's usually more water than output but removes most of the remaining debris left behind from your first infusion. My second infusion usually only takes up about 10-15 minutes of my time. When things are going well the whole process is roughly 45 minutes. It's not that multiple infusions are better than a single, it's more of a comfort thing for me. Many people are perfectly comfortable with one infusion and if works for them that's great. It's all about personal preference and getting the best results with your routine. Once you find your routine you should try and stick to it.

As Derick said it really is all about trial and error. You'll have to play with it for a while till you find out how much water, the number of infusions and what temperature works best for you.

Good Luck,

Remember, the goal is to limit output over your chosen period, usually 24 or 48 hours, not to clean the colon. Use whichever method works best and requires the least amount of time.

Thanks for comments and suggestions, I will keep on experimenting. It was very valuable reading this forum and learn that there are so many options and that you test a lot. I welcome more advise and if you need more info about my background please check also the topic "Stomach regulations"

hi- I'm down to 1 infusion of approx 1000cc, and that works really well for me for 24 hours. I'm currently at an excellent point in my irrigation life (but I have had many trials and tribulations, so I want to remain humble). My total time in the bathroom is usually less than 30 minutes. When I began gatoring mid last year, I did 3 infusions, then about 9 months ago went down to 2 infusions, and now have been doing 1 infusion/day for about 6 months now. I rarely (maybe once a month?) get any output later in the day or overnite, but if I do its rather minimal. As Don60 mentions, my goal is to do enough to get me thru 24 hours, and to my next morning session. And for whatever relevance, I'm 5'7" /150lbs/ 59yo, and pretty active both exercise and work.

I really appreciate hearing successes (and misses) from fellow gators, and how it all works within one's lifestyle.

Best to you, Bob

I now try two infusions of 1000 ml and 20 min between. And warmer water than I had before. It has worked very well for four days now, nothing coming för 48 hours both times :-) Not much time have passed however so I will come back with more news later.

One question: I filled with 2 liters from the beginning but the second time the water obviously was too cold. It's hard to reach the tap to fill up again after the first infusion as I am bound to the toilet. Any suggestions if how to handle this?

Do not confine yourself to the toilet.

Put a clip on the sleeve while waiting for returns and get up and do what ever you want to do. I generally do a lot of the paperwork and other tasks on my computer while waiting.

Do not become a slave to irrigation.

One caveat here. If you use a belt with a faceplate that does not lock into a flange, you need to be careful on limiting the amount of water that you allow to be clamped off. If there is a lot of output, it can pull the belt away a bit causing leaks. That said, I operate similar to Jimbob in that I will sit in my living room during the returns, only going back to the toilet when the sleeve volume becomes significant requiring drainage.

After 15 years of irrigating I have found no perfect solution. My colon is full of radiation scar tissue and sort has it own mind about successful irrigation. I was having lots of problems recently with not making to 24 hours. I went back to the 2nd rinse method, 1500cc flowed by 500cc. I have now had only one problem with early returns in the last two months and that might have been diet related. I will stay with this until it no longer works and them throw a change up.

Now it worked well for 3 months :)
I put 2 liters warm water (not hot but very warm) in the bag, and then I use first 1 liter and wait 10 minutes for the output, and then I use 1 liter again, and wait 20 minutes for the output. Both times most of the output come quite quick but there is always also late output, therefore I wait 20 minutes. The whole procedure takes max 1 hour and I spend it in the bathroom reading och googling the news (other people are most often at home so I don't walk around).
Then usually I am free for 48 hours until next time. Now I feel quite relaxed so I have tried to use small bags of different kinds, very nice.
I am really glad you came up with this recommendation to irrigate 2 times, I had newer heard of it before. And also I use warmer water now then before. It really seems to work well for me!! :D Thanks!
